Summary of the doctoral thesis

Hospital building projects are characterised by an environment in which uncertainty is caused by a wide range of stakeholders, whose interests and objectives can often conflict. Developments in medical and medical science and health technologies at an increasing pace make it difficult to set targets and requirements for hospital projects. The development of health care is often made up of major public building projects involving major investments, isolated changes and impacts on established welfare systems. Therefore, the front-end stage of the project is the most important stage in hospital building projects.
The main purpose of the work is to provide new information on the return on the value of collaborative hospital building projects, especially in the early stages of the project. The systematic processes of initial planning and management of hospital building projects are lacking. A more systematic and comprehensive process could help project owners and project stakeholders to define their objectives and requirements more precisely, so that value expectations and implementation concepts, as well as the resources and skills needed for the success of value creation, can be defined at an early stage of the project.
